ROMAC - Desley Beechey

Desley Beechey is a local Rotarian from the Rotary Club of Ballarat South. Last week Desley shared the story of ROMAC with us. ROMAC aims to restore hope and dignity in young people from Oceania by providing transformative surgeries in Australia and New Zealand which are difficult to achieve in many south pacific countries

Prior to covid19 ROMAC had been completing 40 to 50 treatments per year. The program was halted during covid and is now regaining momentum with 19 surgeries completed so far during 2024. There are currently approximately 60 patients awaiting surgeries.

The focus is on assisting people for countries such as PNG, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Fiji and Tonga. Surgeons and other medical professionals donate their time to bring the ROMAC vision to fruition. ROMAC is supported by Rotarians and Rotary clubs across Australasia to complete its work.

Desley shared her personal story of hosting a family who benefitted from recent treatment here in Ballarat.
